Worried your child might be bullied online—and not know how to tell you?
Cyberbullying is often hidden behind screens, in private messages or unfamiliar platforms. It can feel relentless and isolating for kids, leaving them unsure of how to ask for help. Knowing how to spot it—and what steps to take—can make a big difference.
Cyberbullying includes hurtful messages, embarrassing photos or videos, online exclusion, and rumor-spreading. It can happen anywhere—social media, messaging apps, or games—and it doesn’t stop when school ends. Because it can follow kids 24/7 and spread quickly, the emotional toll is real, often leading to anxiety, withdrawal, or depression. Look out for sudden changes in behavior, secrecy around devices, or signs of distress after going online.
Encourage your child to block bullies, report abuse, and save any evidence. Most importantly, let them know they can come to you without fear. Ask open questions about their online world, teach them how to manage privacy settings, and show empathy in your own digital habits—they’re learning from what you model.
✅ 2–3 Things Parents Can Do Right Now
- Talk regularly with your child about their online experiences—without judgment.
- Check privacy settings together on apps and games they use.
- Make a plan for what to do if something makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe online.
